I was sitting in my office cubicle, feeling a bit bored up as I already finished my work for that day and was supposed to sit for a couple of hours more…formality!. So was just sitting, staring at the screen, thinking what to do! Reading some random stuff….wikipedia…investopedia….etc etc…pedia!
Suddenly got a call on my extension. I looked at the screen of the phone..It said “Mail Room” (MR). A bit surprised, since I could not recall of any courier that I was expecting any time sooner, so I just picked up the phone:
<call>
Me: Hello
MR: Hello..saar!
Me: yes?
<thoughts>
still thinking what the source of the courier could be. I do a lot of online shopping, but mainly books/novels, so could not recall if I ordered any recently or not!
</thoughts>
MR: Saar, we have a person here from Blue Dart. He has a courier for you. He says you need to deposit some money…about 200 or something and then get the parcel…
<thoughts>
then suddenly I had a flash of thoughts…in my mind…like a series of thoughts recalling everything:
- Me going to my college (IIIT Hyderabad) cultural fest ‘Felicity’ on 20th Feb ’10 to attend a Rock show by ‘Motherjane’ (never heard of the band before that day..since I’m not a huge fan of Rock!)
- Falling in love with their songs on that very day.
- Coming back home and downloading the songs of their album ‘maktub’ and listening to it the entire weekend that followed.
- Truly excellent mix of Carnatic music and Rock!! simply Wow!!!
- My favourite songs being ‘Chasing the Sun’ and ‘Mindstreet’
Both the songs just blasted into my head sometimes like bullet shots…and sometimes as if someone just drugged me! - Searching for more info on Motherjane…on its site…and finally….
- …ordering a Motherjane t-shirt from their online store!! (Cash on Delivery)
http://www.motherjane.in/form2.html
- (also mentioning in ‘additional notes’ that when the courier-waala comes, plz ask him to call me, so that I can get down from my office and collect the courier)
…so finally I realised that my Motherjane t-shirt has arrived…!! phew!! long wait over!!
</thoughts>
Me: aaahhh…yes! Bhaiya…Is it from ‘Motherjane’?
MR: Mother what?!?!
Me: Motherjane!
MR: No Saar..its from BlueDart!
Me: No…is the courier from Motherjane?
MR: No saar..from BlueDart…
Me: uuffffff….ok i’m coming!
MR: Plz hurry saar…the person is waiting…
Me: Ok! thanks
</call>
So I locked my computer, and ran towards the mail room, which is on ground floor, and me on 4th floor! ….came out of the security area..into the lift! ….four…three…two…one…ground floor!
<thoughts>
- will the size of the T-shirt be the one I ordered?
- Did they send any note also along with that?
- Will the quality be good?
- Will the design be the same, the one I saw on site?
- …
- …
- …
</thoughts>
Did not realized that It was hot like hell outside! Summer of Hyderabad, good to have offices centralised air-conditioned…..Somehow reached the Mail Room..after a 2 min walk from the ground floor lift.
Entered the mail room, the Blue Dart (BD) person sitting there.
<conversation>
Me: ..you from BlueDart? I’m Vatasal, you called me just now.
MR: yes saar! this is your courier!
Me: aaaahh! thanks
BD: Sir, you need to give…250Rs. plus 13Rs. custom tax..a total of 263Rs.
Me: Ok…cool..here <I gave him 500>
BD: Sir, I don’t have change, you are the first person today whom I had to deliver a courier to.
Me: How can you expect me to carry 2..6..3 rupees in my pocket?? I can either give you a 500Rs. note, or three 100 Rs. notes..I too don’t have change…you must have change!
BD: <blank>
Me: Ok..let me go to the cafeteria (nearby) and get some change.
5min I came back>
<giving him 270Rs.>
Me: take it…(considered Rs.7 as handling charges)
</conversation>
aaaahh!! finally got it!
Came back to my desk…wanted to just blast open the envelope and take the t-shirt out, but I’m supposed to be decent in office
So just peeped inside the envelope and had a look at the t-shirt..unfortunately could not see anything from the small crack that I made, as everyone was watching me, playing with a big sized courier! Mailed one of my friend (whom I told about the t-shirt earlier) that I got the t-shirt…got a reply back in a matter of minutes! “Hey ..nice…you would have opened the envelope by now, smelled the t-shirt and might sneak into the corner to hide and try it out!! by now!!”….I said “No…I just saw it from a crack, will try it out at home!”
So finally I kept it in my bag…and waited!
…finally came out of the office after couple of hours, straight to home….opened the package, took out the t-shirt. It looked better than I expected!
loved the message on the tshirt…it said:
“Believe me, not in me, the messenger is rarely worth it!”
…recalled that It was a line from their song ‘Mindstreet’….
Since I was sweating at that time (biking back from work), so I just thought I’ll try the tshirt some other time…and kept the shirt inside my almirah, with the plastic cover on it.
Next week…19th…tried the shirt..took out my camera and captured a couple of shots!!
….realised that some addictions are just sweet and smooth!…love you Motherjane!!!
